About

Carthur Wan, Ph.D., is an Engagement Manager at Luminary Labs. With a background in neuroscience, non-profit events, and fundraising for applied research and commercialization, he has a passion for building partnerships and helping innovative teams access the right resources to translate their ideas into impact.

Prior to joining Luminary Labs, Carthur was the Manager, Major Initiatives within the Innovation & Enterprise office of the University of Melbourne. He led a program management and strategic advisory team servicing the university’s pursuit of large-scale industry-partnered research funding. Recent outcomes of this work include a $24 million Australian Research Council research center, building computational models for synthetic biology, and a $100 million industry- and community-partnered corporation creating drought-resilience solutions. His earlier consulting with universities and research institutes also involved market and financial analyses, business, and product strategy, including modeling underpinning a $35 million capital raise for the development of a heart disease combination therapy.

Carthur completed his doctorate in Biomedical Science at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and a master’s degree in Management from the University of Melbourne, Australia. In his spare time, Carthur is an avid gamer across his PC, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. He is gradually trying to eat his way through New York’s best restaurants, and having watched every main season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” is eager to catch some live performances.
