Articulating our capabilities in a brand new way.
Moments of great uncertainty can also be moments of great possibility. Luminary Labs was founded in 2009; in that particular moment, the world was reeling from the Great Recession, new social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter were changing the way people connected with each other, and mobile devices were ushering in a new era of digital transformation. Our first engagements focused on helping future-focused executives tasked with doing something new and novel — without existing playbooks or precedents.
What was true then is still true today: We help visionary organizations place big bets, launch high-impact initiatives, and advance groundbreaking innovations. Over the years, we’ve worked with leaders to shape markets and catalyze systems, resulting in the formation of new companies, investment of capital, and development of new solutions. The technologies, platforms, and markets have changed since 2009, and today’s executives are tasked with navigating geopolitical change, demographic shifts, and the rise of generative AI. But the feelings of uncertainty and possibility are evergreen: Across sectors, leaders are asking questions like “What should we be doing now?” and “How can we do it faster, smarter, bigger, and better?” and “Which partners can unlock transformational opportunities?”
There has never been a better time to reimagine what is possible.
Our strategy and innovation consulting work has evolved over the past 15 years. This year, we’re articulating our capabilities in a brand new way.
- Strategy: Advisory, research, and sensemaking to separate signals from noise and bring confidence to decision-making.
- Design: Inventing and planning for high-impact programs, products, services, and experiences.
- Implementation: Delivery, production, and administration to turn great ideas into great realities.
- Scaling: Building capacity, partnerships, communities, and systems to enable long-term innovation and multiply impact.

You may know us for our advisory work on a moonshot investment thesis for a global corporation or our implementation work on a large-scale open innovation program for a public-private partnership — no matter what we are working on, we have an equal appreciation for strategy and execution. By defining our full stack of capabilities across four focus areas, we can better articulate the value we bring to our corporate, philanthropic, and government clients.
We know innovation doesn’t happen behind closed doors, and that partnership is prerequisite. Our highly networked culture allows us to cross-pollinate ideas across a broad range of topics and connect people across seemingly disparate communities, offering fresh insights and new approaches — transforming problems into opportunities and uncertainties into possibilities.
